Creating a BioPanel living wall
Biotecture are living wall design, installation and maintenance experts. We can take your project from concept, right through to installation on site, and beyond.
Feasibility and consultancy
When considering a living wall it’s best to talk to us at concept
stage.
We can advise on appropriate locations and orientation and
recommend the best value solution.
We can also advise on compliance and access considerations
and assist with meeting targets and metrics such as biodiversity
net gain.
Design and project management
Each living wall project is unique and our team will work with
you to create a design that meets your aspirations.
On larger projects we will work the wider design team on the
panel layout and structural design with particular attention to
interfaces.
Irrigation design
We will confirm the irrigation requirements including reviewing
and designing pipe routes and looking at drainage management.
Plant design
We design our green walls in-house and enjoy collaborating with other designers to bring bold, sustainable visions to life, using a tried and tested plant palette that includes hardy evergreens, native species and pollinator-friendly flowering plants.
Every living wall is tailored to its location, with shade-tolerant species for north-facing walls and dynamic seasonal mixes for sunnier spots. This thoughtful approach ensures our walls are not only visually striking but also rich in biodiversity, supporting wildlife throughout the year.
Horticulture
Plants are ‘pre-grown’ into our BioPanels at our dedicated nursery facility in West Sussex, where we have over 5,000m2 of
purpose built vertical racks.
We have a strong plant supply chain and procure over 500,000 plants per year as plugs which are inserted into our BioPanel system and allowed to mature for 8-12 before installation.
We can work to a phased growing programme informed by the overall project programme of works for the project.
Our full-time team of horticulturists nurture the plants until they are ready to be installed.
Maintenance
Living walls like any other landscaping feature need regular maintenance.
We pro-actively look after over 300 living walls in the UK and that number is always growing.
Our maintenance packages include regular visual and horticultural visits to keep walls in great condition and we also offer full remote monitoring for peace of mind.
Access for maintenance should be considered at an early stage.
This could include BMU system, fixed access walkways or access
for MEWPs.
