Canary Wharf greening project shortlisted for The Pineapple Awards

A programme of landscape improvements including green walls and modular seating have impressed the judges of The Developer Pineapple Awards.

11th May 2022 | By Jessica Wigmore

In 2021 Biotecture delivered living walls in prominent locations across the Canary Wharf estate as part of wider landscaping plan to enrich the public realm and contribute the client’s ambitious sustainability goals. The scheme, designed by Gillespies in collaboration with Biotecture and Willerby Landscapes has created distinctive ‘human-scaled’ landscaped areas across the Estate for workers, residents, and visitors to enjoy.

The green walls are formed using ‘PlantBox’, a unique, stackable, modular living wall system that delivers immediate impact. Using this system allowed Biotecture to deliver a big impact within a short timeframe.

The project has been shortlisted for this year’s Pineapple Awards in the ‘Activation’ Category. Run by The Developer Magazine, the awards are dedicated to celebrating projects that create places where people can thrive. The judges are looking for projects that have a positive social or environmental impact.

The shortlisted projects will be presented in front of a live audience at a free-to-attend digital event on 23-27 May, with a live Q&A with the judging panel. Gillespies will be presenting the project at 2:40 on Tuesday 24th May. – Register to attend here.

The winners will be announced at the prize giving party on the 6th of July.
