Plantbox shortlisted for the RHS ‘Sustainable Garden Product of the Year 2021’

This year will mark the 108th RHS Chelsea Flower Show and we’re delighted to announce that PlantBox has been shortlisted for the Sustainable Garden Product of the Year award.

The annual competition from RHS Chelsea recognises the most creative and innovative horticultural products across the UK, and we’re absolutely thrilled that PlantBox has been listed in the top ten this year.

Entries are judged on innovation, visual appeal, functionality, quality, value for money and environmental sustainability, with the winner announced on Monday 17th May as part of the RHS Virtual Chelsea Flower Show. This year’s judges are Chris Harrop, Group Marketing Director & Director of Sustainability at Marshalls, Deborah Meaden, BBC’s Dragons’ Den and Peter Seabrook, Gardening Correspondent for The Sun.

Sustainability in action

Launched in 2020, PlantBox is a revolutionary stackable, modular living wall system, designed by Biotecture directors Richard Sabin and Mark Fleming with sustainability at its core. PlantBox is made from 100% UK post-consumer waste and is also manufactured in the UK to reduce our carbon footprint.

We use 100% recycled cardboard and potato starch bags instead of plastic packaging, and our clever cascading watering system eliminates the need for daily watering and prevents water wastage. Plants take up water as they need it via a wicking system, and each individual trough holds 1.8litres of water.

With a design life of over 10 years, PlantBox is highly durable and its modular design means it can be dismantled, relocated and reused– no single use plastic! And with dense, varied planting, PlantBox living walls can also help increase local biodiversity by encouraging birds, bees, butterflies and insects.

In addition, £1 from every PlantBox we sell goes to the PlantBox Trust, a registered charity that supports community projects and initiative that are working to provide green spaces, clean water, wellbeing gardens, better nutrition and reduced air pollution.

PlantBox applications

With its modular freestanding design, PlantBox is incredibly versatile and can be used in both residential and commercial settings, from balconies and courtyards to offices, schools and construction hoardings. Simple to install and maintain, PlantBox delivers maximum impact with minimal fuss.
