The BioPanel Living Wall System
A resilient, green wall cladding system designed for the construction industry.
Proven system
In 2007 Biotecture’s founders saw a niche for a reliable living wall system suitable for the construction industry.
The development of BioPanel, along with the founder’s expertise helped transition green walls from a novelty landscaping feature into mainstream cladding system.
BioPanel (known as BioTile in international markets) has since been used to create hundreds of living walls across the UK and beyond including landmark projects such as Wimbledon No.1 Court and the Apple store in San Francisco.
Specification
The BioPanel system is modular – each 600mm x 450mm panel includes a water retentive growing medium called Grodan, held in place by recycled polypropylene or aluminium shell.
The panels are fixed back to a cement particle backing board through a geotextile void former layer.
New: Aluminium BioPanel
The Aluminium BioPanel is a next-generation green wall system that combines sustainability, design flexibility, and fire-safe performance.
UK-built and made from 80% recycled aluminium, it offers a modern alternative to plastic-based systems.
Testing and compliance
The BioPanel living wall system has undergone extensive testing to ensure it is suitable for use as a living cladding system.
- CWCT Tested (Centre for Windows & Cladding Technology)
- Reaction to fire testing
- Acoustic testing
Our growing medium
While the idea of growing in soil seems natural, it poses challenges when growing vertically.
Traditional growing mediums like soil and compost are also combustible and can contribute to the spread of fire.
That’s why we use Grodan; a water retentive grade of rockwool favoured by large scale commercial growers.
