BALI Award Win for Regent’s Place

Lush landscaping scheme, including Biotecture's living wall recognised in National Landscaping Awards

7th September 2023 | By Jessica Wigmore

Maylim, the principal contractor behind the new stunning Regent’s Place landscaping project has won a prestigious British Association of Landscape Industries Award. Biotecture installed a 350 m2 living wall as part of the award winning scheme.

One of the central objectives of the Regent’s Place project was to infuse greenery into the area’s previously barren landscape. The revitalized Regent’s Place now boasts an enhanced public realm, promoting well-being through abundant green spaces and providing an inviting environment for tenants, pedestrians, and the local community.

Maylim collaborated with Biotecture to install one of London’s most extensive living walls, featuring over 22,000 plants. This living wall not only promotes biodiversity but also creates a habitat for wildlife in the heart of the city.

Biotecture addressed the important requirement of Biodiversity Net Gain by integrating 50 bug hotels into the living wall, providing additional habitats for various insects, including lacewings, ladybirds, and solitary bees. The planting design, developed in collaboration with Landscape Architect Townshend, featured three bands of planting, with robust evergreen plants and accents in cream, lime, and mauve.

Bespoke Larger planters were included to achieve a “lush jungle” aesthetic which will develop over time.

Lighting specialist MDN UK Ltd also collaborated with Biotecture to incorporate feature lighting into the living wall, enhancing the overall aesthetic.

From sizing, detailing, material selection to delivery, it was all executed to an exacting standard creating a high quality finish that soundly met the client’s brief. Overall a very pleasing scheme delivered to an exemplary standard.”
