Biotecture working on UK’s largest living wall

To be unveiled at the Ashford Designer Outlet in Kent over the course of 2019, Biotecture is delighted to be working on one of the largest living wall projects in Europe.

At over 2,000m2 and containing approximately 160,000 plants a series of luxurious vertical gardens will be the main cladding element of the £90M expansion of the Ashford Designer Outlet. The McArthurGlen extension is scheduled to be fully open by Autumn 2019.

Biotecture have now started working on the project both in our nurseries and on site. The Main Contractor is Mclaren Construction and Biotecture are working diligently with them and the Design Team, including Chapman Taylor Architects and Applied Landscape Design, to design and install Europe’s premier living wall.

A stunning living green wall cladding system. Reflecting Kent’s status as the ‘Garden of England’, a living green wall of tens of thousands of vertically-stacked plants will clad the centre – the longest living wall in Europe – greeting affluent long-haul tourists from Europe and beyond, as well as day-out shoppers.

Over 50% of the living wall is now completed and is growing on purpose built vertical racking systems at our nursery in West Sussex. The plants are growing on under the capable care of our Production Manager, Martin Curd and our Plants Manager, Campbell Thorp. Delivery to site is to be phased over 2019 to suit the Mclaren Construction Build programme and work on the first section of works on site is already underway.
